New Homes for Great Deals

Residents in Merrifield have their pick when it comes to different types of housing. The area mostly consists of single-family and townhomes, both listed at moderate prices. There are also several condos and apartments on the market, especially with the recent addition of the downtown Mosaic District, which added a considerable number of units.

The New Place to Be

The newly opened Mosaic District offers Merrifield residents a whole slew of new shops and restaurants to explore. The bright and upbeat district is decked out in mostly locally owned businesses, giving the area a personalized vibe that is missing from big retail chains. A few of the stores visitors can expect to find here include Swirl and Sip, a wine and beer store with an art gallery feel and free sampling, Capital Teas for loose leaf blends, and MOM’s Organic Market. For everyday shopping needs, this retail hub also features a Target.

In the center of Mosaic is a small green park, used for a communal gathering space and to host various activities throughout the week. Bring your mats for free yoga sessions—the sunny square is the perfect environment for letting go of all your worries. The park also holds a weekly farmers market, allowing visitors to get their fix of locally grown produce, fresh baked goods and other special commodities. Gypsy Soul also hosts “Wine Down Wednesdays.” What better way to motivate yourself to make it through the week than with half-priced bottles of your favorite wine? More family friendly events include weekly free movie screenings and story-telling sessions.

Delicious and Healthy Guilt-Free Eating

Both downtown in the new Mosaic District and in the older parts of Merrifield, there is a variety of different restaurants perfect for trying out new foods or falling back on classic favorites. Cava Mezze, located in Mosaic, could be described as a Greek Chipotle, though this would be selling short its unique and fresh vibe. Customers here start their meal with a base such as salad, rice, greens, grains, and pitas. Then, they move on to choosing from a variety of spicy or savory dips and spreads including eggplant and red pepper, hummus and crazy feta. Finally, they top off their meal with a selection of protein: grilled chicken, spicy lamb, meatballs or falafel. Always a healthy option, Cava Mezze is convenient, fast and reasonably priced.

Rauoche Café is known for its authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. Returning customers swear by the chicken; from the chicken shawarma sandwich to the chicken kabob sandwich, you can’t go wrong. Both are robust with flavor and beautifully built. The signature garlic butter sauce is also a great addition to any dish, and for dessert, the baklava is made in Lebanon—it doesn’t get much more authentic than that. The interior of this lively café is bright and upbeat, a great place for a casual sit-down meal. Rauoche Café’s take out is great for a meal on the go and offers catering services for large events as well.

Any health nut will be happy at True Food Kitchen, though their filling meals will also satisfy even the most indulgent eater. Serving classic American food with an emphasis on vegetarian choices, True Food Kitchen offers favorites such as the edamame dumplings, the inside out quinoa burger and the bison burger. The Kale and avocado dip is another menu highlight, delicious, refreshing and light. If you feel like trying something new, the menu also has a section for creative, witty drinks such as the Hangover RX, made of coconut water, pineapple, vanilla and orange, and the Weekend Warrior, a blend of banana, flax, almond butter and low-fat yogurt and apple.
